Portrait of an artist

Kristy Elik's picture

William Treble is a humble man—with a lot of heart.

The Port Credit resident has built a career on making people care about art through the power of his drawings. His latest illustrations are featured in the fantasy book Entropia: Revolution of the Ants.

Over the years, Treble has drawn numerous pictures, portraits and illustrations that can be seen all over Mississauga. His work hangs in the Meadowvale Library (among others), branches of the Royal Canadian Legion, and in homes across the world.

Treble has lived a life that could have been ripped out of a movie. He’s met the Queen of England, worked as a vacuum salesman, and moonlit as a disc jockey, all while continuing to draw.

Treble has never lost his enthusiasm or drive to create memorable works of art. His well-known sketches of Don Cherry and Mayor Hazel McCallion hang in their respective offices.

When he is commissioned to create a portrait of an individual, he relies on his memory or a couple of photographs given to him for reference.

Treble, with other Port Credit locals, donates supplies to less-fortunate schools that need funding, and works with Scouts and children to teach them the basics of drawing.

He also provides illustrations for children’s books like Entropia, which focuses on an ant looking to rise above his meager status as a worker drone.

Entropia: Revolution of the Ants is available in Mississauga branch libraries and at www.Amazon.ca.
